Gurs hail from Bilbao and take their name from a French internment camp that was initially established to hold Republican combatants escaping from Spain following Franco’s fascist Nationalist victory in the civil war in 1939.  On this their debut four-track EP, the band fuse writhing, darkly melancholic melodies to a ferociously impassioned hardcore base to impressively infectious effect, while robust, gruff Basque / Spanish vocals explore themes of social control and political resistance.  Soaring group vocal choruses brimming with undiluted anger and a fierce sincerity can’t fail but stir, most notably, perhaps, on Tierra Quemada (Burnt Ground) and Tan Solo Unos Minutos (Just A Few Minutes).
