Barcelona’s Brux return with a 10-inch EP capturing five cover versions that showcase the roots of the band’s burly melodicism.

Brux, who share a couple of members with Prison Affair, released their debut album, Anti-You, back in 2019.  They have since honed their sound across two further EPs, most recently 2024’s Fils De La Nit (Threads Of The Night) on La Vida Es Un Mus Discos, balancing the driving rhythms of UK82, with a death rock fuelled melancholy, and an Oi-inclined rock’n’roll swagger.

Soto La Influència (Under The Influence), pulls together five homages that seek to delineate the confluence of the band’s early 1980s’ inspirations.  Or in the words of the band, a ‘divermento’, the playful, small ensemble compositions that were popular in the 18th century.

Three of the covers are Catalan reworkings of the music of GG Allin, Anti-Nowhere League, and the Italian anarchist Oi band, Nabat.  Indeed, the artwork is drawn from the latter’s debut single, Scenderemo Nelle Strade (We’ll Take To The Streets), from which their track is taken.

The other two tracks span Barcelona punks Pisando Güevos and the Madrid darkwave of Decima Victima, the cover of whose Almas Perdidas (Lost Souls) works a particular treat.
