Hailing from Baltimore, Eyelet have been unleashing their distinctive brand of emotional hardcore for just over a decade, including their 2015 debut album, Nervewrecker, and multiple split releases with the likes of Crowning, Gillian Carter, and Joliette.  This is the third pressing of the band’s second full-length, 2020’s The Devil Shining Out Your Eyes.

The album represents an important step in the band’s evolution.  The whiplash dynamics and haunting melodicism of their earliest releases remain firmly in evidence.  Here though, they are imbued with an even more fierce intensity: an innate heaviness and a sense of ominous, all-pervading dread that seeps insidiously into every facet of the songwriting.

A bleakly harrowing atmosphere unfurls as slabs of metallic riffage, swells of mournful melody, and a fiercely supple rhythm section are adroitly woven together.  Meanwhile, the harshly roared vocals conjure a darkly allusive, macabre tapestry of decay and death, as they contemplate our mortality and a sense of time ebbing away, of a life drifting without focus.  Personal highlights are the jaggedly agitated See How You Writhe and the euphorically escalating When I Am Turned To Stone.
