This is the 2022 debut album from the Calgary band, Puppet Wipes.  Anyone who enjoyed their intoxicating melding of punk experimentalism and enticingly off-kilter pop sensibility on Live Inside will find much to relish here.

At this stage Puppet Wipes were a duo and arguably leaning even more into their scrappy, lo-fi aesthetic than on its successor, 2025’s Live Inside.  Scratchy guitars, dissonant electronics, and eerily coiling clarinet restlessly morph into new shapes, some skeletal sketches, others much more fully realised expressions.

This restiveness finds its glue in the equally shapeshifting vocals as they fluidly segue from beguiling melodies to disquieting murmurs and dread inducing lullabies in a haze of fragmented absurdities.  The jauntily fractured Threats From The Parking Authority, the languidly haunting I Was Injured On The Job (Ode To Workers Compensation), and the woozily pulsing of The Peeper Is Seein’ Something Really Going On capture their deliciously offbeat obtuseness to perfection.
