‘Their law, Their bonds, Their terms, Break the innocence, In each of us, With religious lies’ (Their Law)

Hailing from the Polish city of Bielsko-Biała, Splin make their vinyl debut with Type Of Love.  It draws with a high-octane relish on the sounds of the mid-1980s Washington DC ‘Revolution Summer’ and then melds them with the velocity of more contemporary post-hardcore.  The seething Their Law and the slow burn escalation of Tired, perhaps, most vividly capture the dynamics at play.

The taut, lean guitars are flecked with an understated melancholy, and underpinned by a similarly crisp rhythm section.  The relative restraint of this palette provides an ideal backdrop for the more virtuosic vocals.  They sweep seamlessly from cleaner melodic expressions to barked howls, by way of some dramatically exuberant flourishes.  Lyrically, the album tackles themes of personal isolation and frustration as well as the continued pervasive influence of religious conservatism in their home country.
