‘A esta farsa hay que desnudar, Quien tiene poder, mas va a caparar, No vavas a olividar, ue nunca a van a parar’ (Egoismo) / ‘The lie we have to unmask, Who has the power, the more they will hoard, Don’t forget, they will never stop’ (Selfishness)

Un Mundo En Demencia (A World Gone Mad) is the third album from Toronto’s Maldita (Cursed), following up 2022’s self-titled full-length.  It remains rooted in the metallic tinged, driving UK82 punk that defined their earlier releases.  However, there is also the sense of a band beginning to spread its wings, leaning ever more confidently into flourishes of post-punk melodicism and strident anarcho-punk rhythms.

The rampant Spanish vocals remain avowedly front and centre.  But, here too, there is a more expansive edge amid the rasping fury as they confront the insecurities fuelled by a society mired in gender violence, technological control, and oligarchical wealth.  The bristling Automacion (Automation) kicks off proceedings with a high-octane snap, before the bristling agitation of Odio (Hate) feeds into the broodingly discordant stomp of Soldedad (Loneliness) and the bruising escalation of Perdida (Loss).
