Kansas City’s Spine boast a rare longevity, having been prolifically active now for over a decade.  Raíces (Roots) is the band’s third full-length and represents a fierce reiteration of intent.  Blending blistering straight-up USHC with bouts of searing power violence intensity, the band tears through twelve tracks in just thirteen minutes, while occasional flourishes of Latin music samples serve to leaven the sonic battery.  Guttural roared vocals, with hints of Napalm Death’s Barney Greenway, are delivered in Spanish and English and are underpinned by abrasively rugged guitars and a bludgeoning, cymbal awash rhythm section.  Lyrically, the album explores the intersections of heritage, identity, and family in the context of an ever more polarised political environment.
